Health Care Providers is Celebrating Its 20-Year Anniversary

The Health Care Providers (HCP) Group Insurance Plan is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

HCP has been serving hospital workers in Ontario for two decades, helping employees who are typically ineligible to participate in their workplaces’ group benefits plans. The plan was launched in 1997 at the Oshawa General Hospital (now Lakeridge Health Oshawa) and has grown to include over 85 hospitals in the Province of Ontario.

I am exceptionally proud of the program we have built over the last 20 years and the tremendous benefits it offers all the members.

Barry Mount, HMA President

The company’s unique benefits program provides part-time, casual, and retired hospital employees with extended health and dental benefits. Unlike virtually any other group plan, it is available to individual employees and their families on a voluntary basis.

“I am exceptionally proud of the program we have built over the last 20 years and the tremendous benefits it offers all the members,” said HMA President Barry Mount. "Over the years, the plan has grown to include so many new and supportive endorsing hospitals and individual plan members and their families — something we couldn’t be happier about. HCP is run by a wonderful team of truly dedicated people, providing excellent customer service and knowledgeable advice on a daily basis. I can’t wait to see what the next 20 years will bring."

To celebrate the company’s achievements, HCP is holding a one-time, 60-Day Open Enrollment Window offering guaranteed complete level coverage from Nov. 1, 2017 to Dec. 30, 2017. All eligible employees currently working at any endorsing hospital should contact their HR department to find out if they will be participating in the anniversary celebration.

HMA Partner Peter Bocking said, “The [HCP] plan has come a long way since 1997. We’ve created new plan levels to offer guaranteed coverage to a wider variety of employees, added new benefits several times, increased annual maximums to offer better value, introduced coverage to new classes of employees/retirees and created a whole plan specifically for people over the age of 65. We make it our business to listen to what our plan members are saying about their wants and needs and strive for continuous improvement year after year.”

The support and encouragement of human resource representatives across the province has proven paramount to HCP’s success and has helped bring valuable health benefits to countless employees over the years.

“I’m most excited to see where our national expansion will take us!" said Sherri Rodgers, director of operations at HMA. "Thanks to the loyalty of our many clients and endorsing hospital HR staff in Ontario, HCP will now be on offer to hospitals across Canada and we just couldn’t be more thrilled to see where this new chapter will lead us."

With HCP, hospital workers can access high-quality insurance at a lower cost than would be possible on their own. They’re thus able to improve their health and wellness, keep up with preventative care, and be prepared for unexpected health expenses.
